UL Certified Steam Showers VS ETL Certified Steam Showers

One of the biggest factors when purchasing a steam shower is the Electrical certification that the unit carries.  Most states and provinces in Canada require products to be tested by a NRTL or Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.  The most common certification in the United States is UL or Underwriter Laboratories which does the vast majority of testing for products that are manufactured overseas.  ETL certification is the predominant testing company for many products made in Asia.  This is why you will not find steam showers with the UL listing.  ETL is equivalent to UL testing because it is also a NRTL certification.

ETL certification is very important for people that are installing a steam shower in a new construction home or in a state where bathroom remodeling requires an inspection.  Steam showers need to have the UL 499 or CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 164 for the steam generator to pass.  Oasis Platinum steam showers are electrically certified for the United States and Canada.  Without certification, It’s common that the buyer of the steam shower is at a loss.  If the unit fails inspection most companies will not accept a return once the steam shower has been installed meaning the customer will have to tear out the steam shower and replace it with another type of shower enclosure.  This is the major reason that steam showers sold on EBAY have such a bad reputation.
